El Paso County officials initially estimated the fire was 4,000 acres, but revised the size to 3,000 acres Thursday night.

Evacuations were lifted for a wildfire in El Paso County grew to several thousand acres on Thursday in windy conditions.

The Meridian fire burned about 3,000 acres east of Schriever Space Force Base, officials with the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office said about 6 p.m. Thursday. By 9:30 p.m., all evacuation notices were lifted in the area. The fire, which sparked at about 1 p.m., was 70% contained as of 9 p.m., the sheriff’s office said.
